Mike Poole

Chief Editor

Already holding a Bachelor degree in history with first class honours, Mike gained his PhD in Southeast Asian Studies from the Australian National University in 2002. Having worked with Armstrong-Hilton as a part-time editor during his studies, he relocated to Hong Kong to become a full-time editor, before taking over as Chief Editor and later becoming a partner in the company.

Other than editing and copywriting, Mike’s role is to ensure excellent service standards through managing quality control, acquiring new talent and staff training.

In his spare time, Mike reads widely, enjoys hill walking and rock climbing, and dabbles in programmable electronics.

 

Nick Case

Founder & Chief Operations Officer

Nick oversees the day-to-day running of the business including human resources, finance and administration.

Having briefly lived in Hong Kong when young, he completed an MBA in the UK before returning two decades ago and co-founding Armstrong-Hilton in 1996.

Outside of work Nick is a sometime field hockey player and spends his time looking after his young family.

 

Peter Day

Founder & Chief Executive Officer

Pete manages sales and marketing and is involved with the other partners in product and system development. He studied business in the UK before arriving in Hong Kong almost twenty-five years ago, helping to set up Armstrong-Hilton after experience in the commercial property sector.

Outside of work Pete is often to be found in the water, both surfing and paddling, and enjoys the outdoors generally.

 

Tracy Wong

Office Manager

An indispensable part of the team, Tracy handles accounts and much of the administrative side of the operation and speaks fluent English, Cantonese and Mandarin.

A native of Hong Kong, Tracy spent some years in Canada before returning and joining us at Armstrong-Hilton.

She is a keen amateur photographer.

 

James Yiu

Customer Service Manager

James manages daily operations and is the intermediary between clients and editors. A Hong Kong native, James has spent a total of 18 years living in Qatar, Australia and in the Philippines. James is fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin and English and worked for some years in customer service with Cathay Pacific before joining AsiaEdit.

 

Terry Lee

Marketing Manager

Terry devises digital and social media marketing plans to promote AsiaEdit’s expertise to our university clients across Asia. He worked in the higher education marketing sector for over 10 years before joining AsiaEdit, most recently with the British Council.

Fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin and English, outside of work Terry is interested in reading e-commerce technology blogs and is most definitely a football enthusiast.

 

Greg A.

Greg holds a Master’s degree with honours from the University of Auckland and a PhD in Comparative Literature from Monash University, Australia. With a broad experience in academic editing he has also written on a range of subjects relating to science and philosophy.

 

Catherine

 

Catherine has both an academic and biotechnology background with a focus on drug discovery and development in oncology research. Catherine earned her PhD and M.S. in molecular pharmacology from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and a B.S. in biochemistry from Manhattan College.

 

Brian

Brian has been an editor since 1988, with ten years at Edges magazine and twelve as a financial publications proofreader with Bowne of Canada. He has a Bachelor degree in History from the University of Alberta, a certificate in editing from George Brown College in Toronto and has worked with Armstrong-Hilton since 2011. He writes history books in his spare time, and has so far published four.

 

Beth

After graduating with a degree in plant sciences from the University of Edinburgh, Beth studied professional writing and editing in Melbourne before joining the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew as a project editor. She has a wide range of academic, government and commercial editing and publishing experience, and before going freelance specialised in illustrated non-fiction books, with a particular focus on natural history.

She plays viola for the Wandsworth Symphony Orchestra (in London), loves reading recipe books and likes to start, and sometimes complete, creative projects.

 

Allison

Allison gained her PhD in comparative literature from UCLA and taught history and literature at Harvard University before branching out into editing. Her strong academic background in English means that she is familiar with the tone and register expected by academic audiences from a range of disciplines, making her a very versatile editor on the Armstrong-Hilton team.

 

 

Fergus

 

Fergus has been editing and writing for over 20 years, and has worked on academic, reference, education, travel and instructional content. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Literature from the University of Sussex, and has worked with AH Editing since 2012.

Fergus is from the UK and currently resides in Italy.

 

Dave

David has a PhD in psychology and has served as a Senior Lecturer in Sport Psychology at a UK university. He is Associate Editor of The Sport Psychologist, one of the most prominent outlets for sport psychology research, and has published 57 papers in peer-reviewed journals and 9 invited book chapters. He has very broad research experience and interests in both mainstream and sport psychology, psychophysiology, neuroscience, sports science, exercise and health.

 

Stephen

Stephen holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Princeton University. Following work as a research assistant, he completed his PhD in Economics at Stanford University. Currently, he is an active researcher in the field of economic theory, with a diverse set of interests within that discipline.

Outside of work, he enjoys baking sourdough bread, traveling, and taking photographs.

 

Travis

 

After graduating with a bachelor degree from Columbia University, Travis spent a year working as a corporate strategist at Microsoft and is now studying for his PhD in Economics at Stanford. His dissertation analyzes the relationship between the information flows from urban to rural areas and the determinants of migration in Kenya.

In his spare time Travis reads fiction, rides motorcycles, and bakes breads.

 

Radhika

Radhika specializes in editing business research papers, and also has had prior exposure editing in the physical sciences.

Her passions include tackling giant jigsaw puzzles, painting still life, listening to classic rock, trekking, and travelling.

 

Magali

Having gained a Master’s degree in Biology and one in English Literature, Magali is now studying for a PhD in Gender Studies at UCL after completing a Master’s degree on the same topic at Swansea University.

She is currently studying Japanese and in her spare time loves to travel, read and watch anime.

 

Lee

An editor with a multi- and inter-disciplinary background spanning economics and the natural sciences, after gaining an undergraduate degree in environmental economics, Lee completed a PhD in tundra biogeochemistry which involved a stint on Svalbard in the Norwegian High Arctic. He then spent more than a decade at different UK universities carrying out research at the environment-economy interface and teaching research methods and statistics to postgraduate students. He enjoys travelling and currently works from Europe.

 

Kimberlee

Kim earned her undergraduate degree in chemistry from Davidson College, where she took as many literature classes as her schedule would permit. She holds a doctorate in chemistry and neuroscience from Princeton University and is a certified editor in the life sciences through BELS.

Kim currently works as a research assistant professor and science writer in Arizona. When it is less than 100°F, she loves hiking and exploring the American west in a VW Vanagon.

 

Judy

Originally obtaining her BA in English Literature at Sacramento State University, freelancing for science publishers such as Academic Press and Wiley sharpened Judy’s interest in science and medicine, and she returned to academics to take her Masters in Plant Biology, writing a flora of her beloved Denman Island, BC, Canada. Following a stint editing for Nature Publishing Group, Judy joined AH Editing in 2017.

 

Greg M.

Greg has broad experience editing in academic, medical and business contexts. He holds an M.A. from the Philip Merrill College of Journalism in Maryland and worked briefly in magazine and newspaper writing, including at the Washington Post.

His passions include piano and chess and he holds an expert-level rating from the United States Chess Federation.

 

Louise

Louise obtained a First-Class BA(Hons)/MA in English from Jesus College, University of Cambridge. She then secured an MPhil in Medieval and Renaissance Literature and embarked on a PhD on grammatical “falling” in Shakespearean tragedy, also at Jesus College. Whilst working part-time with AsiaEdit, for 12 years she offered undergraduate supervision in numerous Cambridge English Tripos papers (ranging from Practical Criticism to Renaissance Literature and the famous Tragedy paper), before taking on the full-time Managing Editor role in 2019.

Beyond editing and supervising, Louise holds a Varsity Blue in ballroom and Latin dancing and is somewhat obsessively learning to play snooker.

 

Gwen

Gwen brings many years of experience working on educational and academic texts, particularly in business and the life sciences. She has also co-authored several educational textbooks, specialising in the use of plain English for second-language students. In recent years she has focused increasingly on research papers for non-English speakers, as well as developmental editing for fiction authors. She holds a Bachelor degree in Psychology and English and a post-graduate diploma in business.

 

Tim

Tim achieved a first-class Bachelor’s degree in History and Political Studies from the University of Otago, New Zealand in 2010, and then completed an MPhil in History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Cambridge in 2014. Tim joined AH Editing in 2016 as an editor and has professional experience in the university sector and the publishing industry.

 

Aaron

Aaron has a Master’s degree in Anthropology and a PhD in Communication from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. In his research, he studies cities and technologies. In his personal life, he likes sitting by a campfire, reading sci-fi, and enjoying a beer. Aaron has a number of peer-edited publications in leading journals in communications and media studies and has been editing for academics on and off since 2009.

 

Rachel

Rachel spent several years working as a book editor before studying psychology at Exeter University, where she gained a first class honours degree and an MSc in Psychological Research Methods. She first worked as an editor for Armstrong-Hilton over ten years ago while completing her PhD studies, and then spent several years as a university lecturer in the UK before returning to us in 2010.

 

Leo

Leo studied at University College London, where he gained a Master’s degree in Chemistry in 2006, and the University of St Andrews, at which he was awarded a PhD in Chemistry in 2015.
Working as a freelance editor since the beginning of 2016, Leo is still collaborating in computational chemistry research with his PhD supervisor and recently had another paper published.

He enjoys cycling and when he resided in Scotland hill walking, but opportunities for that are more limited now that he’s based in the south of England.

 

Kathy

With an M.A. in professional writing from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and a B.S. in ceramic engineering from Alfred University, Kathy is a successful editor in the areas of materials science and materials engineering.

 

Joshua

Joshua holds a Master’s degree in Mass Communication from Oklahoma State University and has worked as an academic editor since 2010. An award-winning writer and novelist, he’s been writing his whole life, and is one of the editors of Diplomacy World, the flagship publication of the Diplomacy hobby.
His interests include science fiction, health and fitness, strength training, baseball and bombastic European power metal.

 

Asha

Asha has worked as an academic editor for over a decade. She started in early 2009 as a university textbook editor, before undertaking successive editing roles with a university publication that showcased student research. She eventually transitioned into her position on the AsiaEdit team in 2015. Twice graduated from the University of Toronto, she holds a BSc and a BA in the sciences and foreign languages.

Asha is passionate about language learning and travel photography. When she’s not editing, she’s working with agencies, hotels and destinations to produce, curate and publish creative social content for their marketing endeavours.

 

Lorenzo

Lorenzo gained a BA and a BSc with First Class Honours at the Australian National University before completing his PhD in organic chemistry in 2015 at the same university. He has also worked at the Ecole Polytechnique in Paris and at Jinan University in Guangzhou. Aside from science, Lorenzo has a long and developed interest in politics. When he isn't discussing how to save the world, he can be found at the boxing gym.

 

Kim

Kim has Master’s degrees in Social Work and Marine Policy, and has spent many years working in and around human services, government, and science organizations as a researcher, writer, and editor.  She has called both Australia and the US home and currently lives along a Louisiana bayou.  For fun, she likes to hike, camp, ride her bike, read, cook and garden

Leia

Leia is a PhD student at the University of Cambridge, researching neural stem cells and gene regulation. She hails from Ireland, where she obtained a BSc in Biomedical, Health and Life Science at University College Dublin, giving her a well-rounded knowledge of all things biological.

When she’s not at the lab bench, she can be found rowing on the River Cam, exploring the world and drinking copious amounts of coffee.

Nina

After graduating with a First Class Honours and completing her MA in Germanic Studies at the University of Sheffield, Nina worked for a London-based translation agency before further honing her skills as a proofreader for a national monthly magazine in Cairo. Following a move to Beijing she started working for AsiaEdit alongside a role as a language consultant for the China International Publishing Group. Six years and two children later, the family moved to Milan but Nina stayed with AsiaEdit. She enjoys an active work schedule while managing the family and learning Italian.

 

Sheelagh

After gaining a PhD in Zooarchaeology with its links to anatomy, biology and geology, Sheelagh taught courses on everything from cultural studies to statistics. Having developed a very useful skill – the ability to communicate to many different audiences – she began working as a writer and editor before joining the AsiaEdit team.

Claire

Claire came to AsiaEdit in 2004 after a stint as the sole English language editor for the Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden in Hong Kong. Since that time she has been a cornerstone of the team, accumulating experience in editing for customers in all academic disciplines.

Claire has First Class Honours degrees in both the humanities and natural science.

She likes to practice the martial art of Muay Thai, cultivate her knowledge of trees and woodland ecosystems and read an awful lot of books.

 

Nate

Having received his MA in English from the University of Toronto, Nate embarked on a career in editing and has worked on a wide range of material, including academic writing and business publications, for both individuals and organisations since 2007.

In his spare time, Nate is a jazz enthusiast.

 

Patricia

Patricia has a DPhil in social gerontology from the University of Oxford, a Juris Doctor (Law), Master’s degrees in Gerontology, History and Education, a secondary teaching credential and a Bachelor’s degree in History.

Before returning to university in 2006, she was a practicing attorney specialising in business/corporate and appellate law. Her current research focuses on Chinese women and filial obligation in the context of changing norms. She is a licensed pilot and an avid traveller.

Carlson

Carlson gained a BSc in Biochemistry with First Class Honours from the University of Bristol, and went on to complete a PhD in Immunology. He has published in several high-impact journals and is specialized in editing research papers in biochemistry, immunology and cell biology.

He spends his spare time reading, climbing and travelling.

Louis

Louis graduated with a BA (Hons) in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge in 2016. He has since achieved two Master’s degrees – an MSc in Statistics (Distinction) and an MRes in Mathematics (Distinction) – at Imperial College London, where he is now working towards a PhD in statistics.

In his spare time, Louis is a keen marathon runner, musician, and foodie.

Vikki

Vikki has a degree in English Literature from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. She has several years’ experience editing for academic publishers, journals, and think tanks in the fields of economics, finance, business, international law, and energy policy. Though she's originally from Hong Kong, she currently lives in Buenos Aires where she's engaged in small-scale urban farming projects.

Darby

Darby has a PhD in organic chemistry (natural product total synthesis) from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand. He worked for ten years in drug development at the Auckland Cancer Society Research Centre, University of Auckland, followed by five years at Cawthron Institute, Nelson, working in various areas of analytical chemistry and microscale synthetic modification of natural products. He has also worked as a freelance academic editior and at a large commercial plant nursery.

Outside of work, Darby enjoys keeping fit and flexible, reading widely, listening to music, making jams and jellies, coffee, gardening, quizzes, and keeping up with his family.

Rowena

Rowena is a PhD student at University College London, researching Philosophy of Education at the UCL Institute of Education. She has two decades of experience teaching philosophy and education studies to undergraduate students. She spends her spare time reading, camping, and bringing her two children to visit museums around London.
