Last month, we announced “AsiaEdit in the Community”, our community outreach program through which our full-time team members can spend time on projects that benefit their community at large or contribute to issues that are dear to their heart. In the first update, we read about issues that Peter Day, our CEO, and Jennifer Oliver, our Co-Chief Editor, are passionate about.
In this update, we share Felix Sebastian’s (our General Manager) experience volunteering with Salt Collectiv, a Taipei-based non-profit organisation. Salt Collectiv organises multiple events a month, mobilising a diverse group of volunteers to serve vulnerable members of our society, primarily homeless individuals, orphaned children, and those requiring elderly care.
On August 6, Felix participated in Salt Kitchen, an activity wherein a small group of volunteers prepared, packed, and delivered bento box lunches (noodles) to the homeless population around Taipei Main Station.
“Preparing a meal for oneself can be a chore, but preparing a meal for family, friends, and in this case strangers, is an act of love and kindness. The sense of community and kindness within this group of organisers and volunteers was very palpable,” says Felix, who is now inspired to be a part of future Salt Collectiv events as well.
Salt Collectiv runs Salt Kitchen twice a month; follow their social media (@saltcollectiv) for volunteering opportunities.
