For over 25 years, we have called Hong Kong home, from where we have served researchers and authors all over East Asia, particularly China. Our CSR partnerships with OceansAsia and The Institute of Public & Environmental Affairs reflect our commitment to our neighbourhood.
‘Local Knowledge, Global Talent’ is more than just our tagline. ‘Work from anywhere’ has long been the norm for us, decades before COVID. This trust- and respect-based culture has enabled us to build and maintain a network of the best academic editors from the world over. This means that not only is Hong Kong home to AsiaEdit, so are dozens of cities and small towns on all continents barring Antarctica.
We are now seeking to give back to communities in places that our staff are proud to call home. Announcing AsiaEdit in the Community, our community outreach program through which our team members can spend time on projects that benefit their community at large or contribute to issues that are dear to their heart.
For Dr Jennifer Oliver, our Co-Chief Editor, that issue is voting rights.
“The freedom to vote for a representative government is a fundamental right in the US. In 1920, when the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution ensured women’s right to vote, the League of Women Voters evolved from the women’s suffrage movement,” says Oliver.
The goals of the League, a nonpartisan organisation, are to empower voters and defend democracy. “We achieve these by educating voters in our communities through voter guides, candidate forums, and other information about elections via various media outlets; working with governments and community partners to expand access to the vote; and advocating for legislation that supports election protection, civil rights, environmental sustainability, and social justice,” adds Oliver, who will continue working on this project this fall for a Michigan chapter of the League, this time with a few hours contributed by AsiaEdit.
“We’ve been improving AsiaEdit’s CSR efforts for the last couple of years, starting with our sponsorship of OceansAsia, a cause close to me, and followed by our pro bono editing for The Institute of Public & Environmental Affairs in China” says Peter Day, our Co-founder. “AsiaEdit in the Community struck us as a great way to enable our worldwide team to get actively involved, making it a truly company-wide initiative, so we are very excited to get behind it. Hopefully, Jennifer will be an inspiration for others to take up this opportunity. With Covid restrictions receding, I know there are a few plans in the pipeline!”
