Richard joined the AsiaEdit team in 2023 on stepping down from his previous role as Head of the Centre for Professional and Business English (CPBE) at Hong Kong Polytechnic University. At CPBE, he spent over ten years delivering communication skills workshops for professionals, including academics, helping them convey even their most complex ideas in clear, crisp language.

Richard graduated from the University of Manchester in the UK in 1990 with a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Social Studies. He set out on a career as an English as a Second Language teacher in the early 1990s, arriving in Hong Kong in 1998, where he has lived ever since.  He completed his master’s degree in Applied Linguistics with Macquarie University, Australia, in 2006.

A keen hiker, Richard enjoys exploring the furthest reaches of rural Hong Kong in the cooler months.
